Northern Saudi Arabia Mountains Covered With Snow

DDHK. ORG – Mountains in the north Saudi Arabia currently covered in snow. This is also the case in many areas of Saudi Arabia.

Al-Lawz in the Tabuk region is one of the areas in the mountains in an area that has started to be covered with snow since Tuesday (27/12) yesterday.

Even so, this snow-covered area is actually an attraction tour for Tabuk residents and visitors who come from various regions to enjoy the snow and the beauty of the area to witness the snow.

Director of the branch of the National Meteorological Center in the Alenizi Northern Region as reported Republika stated that the snowfall in the Northern Region of Saudi Arabia, especially the Al-Lawz Mountains and adjacent areas, depends on two main factors.

“The first is the degree of depth and movement of the polar depression and the availability of suitable moisture, as it frequently touches the northwestern Alkan and Al-Lawz Mountains, where the depression can deepen to the south and affect the Hasmi mountains to the west of Tabuk. The impact rarely reaches south of Tabuk, where the Harrah Mountains are located,” he said as quoted by the Saudi Gazette, Wednesday (28/12).

He added that the second factor is the extent to which the decrease in the frost line due to the polar depression is accompanied by a decrease in the level of the tropopause, so that the level of the atmospheric layer decreases.

“Weather fans look for multiple lines known as snow lines, such as line 540 in the 500 mb layer and line 130 in the 850 mb layer,” he says.

He also pointed out several factors that indicate the probability of snowfall at the Earth's surface level: lines drawn on a weather map that indicate how high or low the layer is, and thus how deep the depression is.

He notes that the true scale is zero Celsius temperature at any level, which determines the type of precipitation that occurs. [DDHK News]
