Iran Fires Hundreds of Drones and Rockets at Israel

Currently involved in the conflict in Gaza, Palestine, Israel seems to be looking for trouble and opening a new war front. The Zionist state attacked the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, Syria, killing two commanders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Iran's leaders and public were angry and promised to retaliate.

That promise was fulfilled on Saturday night (13/4/2024). Iran reportedly fired more than 300 attacks via drones and rockets on Israel.

This was confirmed by Daniel Hagari, Israeli Military Spokesperson. "A number of Iranian missiles fell on Israeli territory, causing minor damage to military bases without any casualties," Hagari said as quoted by Al Jazeera, as reported by CNN Indonesia.

The Iranian news agency, IRNA, previously reported that the IRGC began launching drone and rocket attacks on Israel this weekend. Iran previously emphasized that the attack on Israel was part of 'self-defense' in response to Israel's attack on the Iranian Consulate General in Damascus, Syria, last April 1. Iran emphasized that the attack was to exercise its right to self-defense as stated in Article 51 of the UN Charter, namely the right to self-defense of a state.

The IRGC claims that the attack they carried out was successful on target. The IRGC revealed that it had succeeded in destroying vital Israeli military facilities used to attack Iranian assets in Damascus, Syria.

"Operation Honest Promise was carried out successfully from last night to this morning and achieved its objectives," IRGC Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri told Iranian television, quoted by AFP.

One of the missions that Israel claims to have successfully carried out was to destroy Israeli 'intelligence centers' and air bases. The IRGC said that Israel flew F-35 stealth fighter jets from the air base to launch air strikes on Damascus.

“These two centers were significantly destroyed and carried out according to orders,” Bagheri said.

Israel reportedly "complained" to the United States (US), Britain and France when attacked by Iran. This was conveyed by Israeli Military Spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.

Hagari claims the three countries have responded. “We are working closely with the US, UK and France who acted tonight. "This partnership has always been close, but tonight it was realized in an unusual way," said Hagari as reported by CNN International, as quoted by CNN Indonesia.

Panicking about being attacked by Iran, Israel also asked the UN Security Council to hold an emergency meeting to condemn Iran's attack on its country. This request was made in an official letter sent by the Israeli Ambassador to the UN to the President of the UN Security Council Vanessa Frazier.

“Iran's attack represents a serious threat to global peace and security and I hope the Security Council will use all means to take concrete action against Iran,” Israel's UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan said in a post on his personal X.

On the other hand, Iran threatened to prepare a more powerful retaliatory attack by deploying more forces if Israel retaliated against their attacks. "The Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to exercise the right of self-defense if necessary," said Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Amir Saeid Iravani in a statement as quoted by CNN. "If the Israeli regime carries out military aggression again, Iran's response will definitely be stronger and firmer," Iravani added.
