Sunnah Prayer behind Maqam Ibrahim

After completing seven rounds of tawaf at the Grand Mosque, people then rush to Maqam Ibrahim (the cornerstone of Prophet Abraham when building the Kaaba) to perform two cycles of sunnah prayers. The sunnah prayer of two rak'ahs behind Maqam Ibrahim is a recommended worship if this is possible and not burdensome, bearing in mind that in that place there is a large crowd of people who want to perform sunnah prayers.

When heading to the back of maqam Ibrahim while reading the word of Allah: "Wat-takhidzuu mim maqoomi ibroohiima mushollaa"

"And make maqom Ibrahim a place of prayer." (QS Al-Baqoroh: 125)

Pray two cycles of prayer, in the first cycle read the letter al-Kafirun and in the second cycle read the letter al-Ikhlash. (HR Muslim no 1218)

Allah Ta'ala mentions that there are real signs at the maqam Ibrahim, Allah Ta'ala says: “There are clear signs in it, (among them) the maqam Ibrahim; whoever enters it (the Baitullah) then he is safe. [QS. Ali Imran: 96-97]

Ibn Kathir mentioned Mujahid's opinion that the maqam of Ibrahim was a sign of the footprints of the prophet Abraham, he said: "The imprints of both of Abraham's feet on the maqam are clear signs." [Tafsir of Ibn Kathir]

Maqam Ibrahim is where the Prophet Abraham stood when building the Kaaba, not a grave as people think. The shape is a piece of rock for a foothold, because the Prophet Abraham stood on this rock while the Prophet Ismail held out the stones to build the Kaaba for him. This is where the Prophet Abraham announced to all mankind about the obligation of pilgrimage.

Some of the features of Maqam Ibrahim as described in the book of Tariqus Shaalihin, include:

  1. As a special prayer place after thawaf. Word of Allah Subhanallahu wa Ta'ala: "And make Maqam Ibrahim a place of prayer." (QS. Al-Baqarah: 125)
  2. Derived from the rocks of heaven. Maqam Ibrahim is a stone of Yaqut taken from heaven. Allah removed the light. If it is not removed, it will undoubtedly be able to illuminate everything in the east and west.
  3. As a sign of the real power of God. Allah says, “Indeed, the house that was originally built for (a place of worship) for humans, is the Baitullah in Bakkah (Mecca) which is blessed and becomes a guide for all mankind. There are clear signs in it, (among them) the maqam of Ibrahim…." (QS. Ali Imran: 96-97)

May we be facilitated by tawaf and sunnah prayers behind Maqam Ibrahim.
