Policewomen May Be Veiled, Decree Signed
DDHK News, Indonesia - Deputy Chief of Police, Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti, will sign a decree allowing female police officers (Polwan) to wear the hijab next week.
"If I have signed the TR (Secret Telegram), then the policewoman may wear a headscarf," Badrodin said, Wednesday night (21/1), as quoted tempo.co.
Badrodin, who has been acting as the Chief of Police since the Chief of Police, General Sutarman was dismissed last Friday, added that the TR will be signed next week. However, Badrodin has not mentioned the day and date.
However, Badrodin confirmed that the draft decree regarding the regulation for policewomen to wear the headscarf was ready.
According to Badrodin, so far there has been no regulation that allows policewomen to wear the hijab. Except for the Aceh Regional Police, which has long allowed Policewomen to wear the hijab since Aceh Province implemented Islamic law.
Two years ago, the Police Headquarters had discussed wearing the headscarf for Muslim Policewomen. However, the discourse was never realized until Sutarman was dismissed from the post of Chief of the Police. *
