DDHK-UIN Pekalongan Collaborates on Sending Dai Ambassadors to Hong Kong and Macau

Dompet Dhuafa Hong Kong (DDHK) and KH Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan State Islamic University (UIN) signed a collaboration (MoU) to strengthen religious assistance and education for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Hong Kong and Macau. The signing was carried out by the General Manager of DDHK, M. Imam Baihaqi and the Chancellor of UIN Pekalongan Prof. Dr. H. Zaenal Mustakim, M.Ag.

After being signed by Prof. Zaenal in Pekalongan, the MoU document was brought to Hong Kong and signed at the DDHK office in Causeway Bay on Tuesday (19/9/2023) by Imam Baihaqi. This signing was witnessed directly by the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni and Collaboration of the Sharia Faculty of UIN Pekalongan, Dr. H. Mohammad Fateh, M.Ag. and PMI Hong Kong.

"Officially, this is an MoU between the UIN KH Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan campus and the Sharia Faculty of UIN KH Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan and DDHK," said Ustadz Fateh.

This collaboration was built by UIN Pekalongan with DDHK with the consideration that PMI in Hong Kong and Macau are a group of overseas Indonesian people who need assistance and religious education amidst their busy lives at work. Apart from that, DDHK is the right institution to carry out social work in assisting PMI and absorbing ZISWAF funds to them.

This collaboration, said Ustadz Fateh, covers 3 aspects of the Tri Dharma of higher education. Namely, teaching, research, and community service.

"The aim of this collaboration is to realize the Tri Dharma of higher education between UIN Pekalongan and DDHK. "For campus MoUs, it is always not allowed to go beyond the Tri Dharma above," said this academic born in Surabaya, East Java.

Ustadz Fateh revealed that there are at least 3 concrete things that will be implemented based on the signed MoU. First, sending Dai Ambassadors to teach divine values (tauhid), family and social laws (muamalah), as well as teaching morals (manners). The caretaker of the Tahaffadzul Qur'an Al-Anwar Suburan Mranggen Islamic Boarding School, Demak, Central Java, is currently in Hong Kong as a DDHK Dai Ambassador.

"I was assigned to Hong Kong from September 2 to 30 2023," he said.

Second, joint research on zakat, infaq, shodaqoh and waqf (ZISWAF) and PMI diversity practices. Third, community service as a form of service to migrant communities (PMI).
