Not praying and fasting for reasons of work, can it be replaced by payment of fidyah?

Assalamualaikum.

Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

  1. Fasting in Ramadan was compulsory since at what age? Is a 7 year old child obliged to fast?
  2. Are we obliged to pay fidyah if we leave prayers and fasting for work reasons?

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

Wassalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarokaatuh.

Requirements for compulsory fasting, apart from Muslims, they are also baligh. This means that children who are already baligh are obliged to fast, like other adults.

Fasting for young children (who have not reached maturity) is not obligatory. However, child guardians instruct them to get used to practicing from an early age. Fasting for these children is rewarded and there is no sin in leaving it.

Fidyah only applies to those who leave fasting. Even then, because the person concerned is elderly or has chronic disease, so he is unable to fast and replace it on another day.

Therefore, for those who leave prayer and fasting, it is obligatory to teach them.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
