Halal Meat at Sai Wan Ho Market

HALAL FOOD

SAI WAN HO | HONG KONG - Some Muslim Friends believe that all food in Hong Kong is not halal. He said, prepared and cooked foods in the Land of Beton must have been mixed with pork oil and it was difficult to find halal ones. In the end, they believe that we who are Muslim and live in Hong Kong are in a state of emergency, so it is okay to eat foods that are of doubtful halal.

In fact, in my opinion, not so. For Muslim friends who are observant and conscientious, there are also many products labeled Halal, scattered in Hong Kong and we can enjoy. Whether it's the halal label from the state certification bodies of Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, Europe, Latin America, or food labeled as Halal from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). Of course, many also have the Halal label from The Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong, which is based on the 8th floor of the Ammar Wan Chai Mosque.

We can find these halal products in stores such as 759 Stores, PARKnSHOP, Wellcome, and various other supermarkets. In addition, in various restaurants and restaurants that are also labeled Halal.

On the contrary, many have a misconception about halal meat being sold in Hong Kong. As long as it's chicken, goat, or beef, and not pork, it's definitely halal.

In fact, livestock whose meat is allowed for consumption by a Muslim, must be slaughtered in certain ways. If these conditions have been fulfilled, including mentioning and reciting the name of Allah Ta'ala when slaughtered, then the meat can be declared halal.

Now, for halal meat, I would like to share this information with Muslim Friends in Hong Kong. In particular, those who live in the Sai Wan Ho area and its surroundings.

For Muslim friends who don't know, Sai Wan Ho is one of the residential areas on Hong Kong Island. The location is between Quarry Bay and Shau Kei Wan. So, to get there from Causeway Bay, we can take the bus, train (MTR), or tram that goes to Shau Kei Wan.

Well, in Sai Wan Ho, there is a halal butcher's shop which is labeled “HALAL MEAT SHOP” on its banner. The location is in stall or kiosk number M6 on the ground floor of the Sai Wan Ho Market and Cooked Food Center Building, or Sai Wan Ho market.

In this shop, halal beef, chicken, and mutton are available. This "Halal Meat Shop" shop is open from 9 am to 6 pm.

For Muslim friends who have never shopped at the Sai Wan Ho market, I will try to give you the directions. Namely, after exit A of Sai Wan Ho MTR station turn right. About 1 minute walk, we will find the entrance to the market.

After entering, we find the escalator. Go straight down the alley to the left of the escalator, past the fish and seafood stalls on our right. Once we see the exit in front, we turn right. Don't go left, because that's the way to the toilet. We will then return past the fish and seafood stalls. This time, the stalls are on the left and right. Half a minute walk straight, then turn right, Sahabat Muslim will find the Halal Meat Shop in question. [Siti Ngatipah]
