Is KH Ahmad Dahlan a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad SAW?

Is KH Ahmad Dahlan a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad SAW?

Peace, mercy and blessings of God

Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

Regarding kemuhammadiyahan. Is it true that Kiai Ahmad Dahlan is a habib and is still in the family of the Messenger of Allah? And, is the wife of the kiai also a great person or just an ordinary woman?

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

ليكم السلام الله ات

Bismillah… Kyai Haji Ahmad Dahlan is the founding cleric of Muhammadiyah.

He was born in Yogyakarta, August 1, 1868, and died on February 23, 1923. He is a National Hero of Indonesia.

He is the fourth son of seven children from the family of KH Abu Bakr. His father was a prominent cleric and preacher at the Great Mosque of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta at that time. While his mother was the daughter of H. Ibrahim who was also the head of the Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Sultanate at that time.

If the lineage is drawn, then it will come to the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam. This is similar to the genealogy of the founder of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Kyai Haji Hasyim Asy'ari which also reached the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam, where the lineage of the two began to meet with Maulana Ishaq (father of Raden Ainul Yaqin or Sunan Giri).

Muslims in Indonesia usually refer to people who are descendants of the Prophet Muhammad SAW with the title habib. While Habaib is the plural word of Habib itself.

It's just that in Muhammadiyah, the call habib or habaib is not commonly used. This is because Muhammadiyah tries to eliminate the cult of a person without reducing respect for him. This is solely done as a form of obedience to the Muhammadiyah residents to the teachings of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam who indeed during his life did not do these things. So Muhammadiyah tries to emulate the behavior exemplified by the Prophet.

But that does not mean that Muhammadiyah does not believe in the existence of the descendants of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam. It's just that, even if there are Muhammadiyah cadres who still have a lineage up to the Prophet, then it is not too cult. However, respecting him is an obligation because that person still has the noble lineage of the Prophet as long as he is committed to his teachings - sallallhu 'alaihi wasallam.

As for whether the wife of a kyai is a great woman or just ordinary, it depends on her own deeds. If she becomes a pious woman who is obedient to Allah, the Messenger, as well as her husband, supports her husband's preaching, etc., then she is a great woman. But if she does not reflect a good and pious wife, then she is like an ordinary woman in general.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.
