Because it's easy to feel sorry for close friends, Indonesian migrant workers are cheated of HK$50 thousand

DDHK.ORG - Fraud cases in Hong Kong are often carried out by close friends. One of them is evidenced by an Indonesian migrant worker (PMI) who claims to be named Ati. The loss he suffered was unmitigated, HK$50 thousand!

“I am a person who feels sorry if I see people asking for help while crying. Moreover, the reason is that his father is being treated at the hospital for brain cancer. Because I remember my parents who are old, I cry too, “said Ati to DDHK News.

Moreover, said PMI from Indramayu, West Java, the friend who deceived him was considered a good friend. “Wherever we go together, we eat together, we always call me every day. How dare he to me. Even better, it's rude," he said.

According to Ati's confession, the friend who tricked him was named Sri, from Banyuwangi, East Java. The woman, who has worked for 8 years in Hong Kong, first met Sri, who also works as a domestic worker, at an Indonesian shop during her Sunday holiday, in 2013.

This fraudulent case began when Sri asked Ati for a loan of HK$50. He promised to pay it in installments every month.

"His mother in Indonesia has borrowed money here and there but no one has given her," said PMI, who currently works in the Mei Foo area, revealing Sri's reasons.

Of the HK$50 thousand, as much as HK$20 thousand was Ati's savings. Because it was still lacking, Ati lent his biodata and personal documents to Sri to borrow money from a finance company in Hong Kong, amounting to HK$30 thousand. Sri reasoned that his personal data and documents were used by his friends.

For a loan at a finance company, or commonly called a bank by PMI circles, Sri had to pay the installments once. Then then he disappeared.

Ati does not know where Sri is now. He had met Sri's friend, he said Sri had worked in Macau. Meanwhile, according to another friend, Sri is reported to have returned to Indonesia.

"I don't know which one is right," said Ati.

He never thought of reporting this fraud to the police. But in the end he gave up. "I'll just let it go. Now I just give up. If God still brings me to him, I will definitely meet him. And if he wants to pay, he's definitely looking for me. That's just my hope," said Ati. [DDHKNews]
