Winter Approaches, Hong Kong Residents Asked for Flu and Covid Vaccination

Hong Kong residents, including Indonesian migrant workers who are working in the Land of Concrete, are asked to undergo flu and Covid vaccinations. Because, winter is approaching.

This appeal was conveyed by Hong Kong Government public health advisor David Hui, on Saturday (14/10/2023). Speaking on a Commercial Radio programme, David Hui said more than half of patients diagnosed with severe cases of influenza recently had not received a flu shot.

"He said now is the right time to get the shot, before the peak of winter hits," as reported by RTHK.

The Chinese University professor also said the public should take advantage of this opportunity to receive the latest vaccine against Covid, because he estimates cases will peak again next month. “The last Covid peak occurred in April to June, especially in May. Generally antibodies tend to fall to lower levels after about six months. "Therefore, it is estimated that there will be another peak around November," Hui said.

He added that although health authorities aim to have third-generation vaccines available by December, high-risk individuals should not wait and should get vaccinated as soon as possible. "We urge high-risk groups to get booster shots earlier if it has been more than six months since their last vaccination or infection," he said.
