Can Miracles and Charama Be Repeated?

ASKING:

Assalamualaikum, Chaplain.

If the miracle is an extraordinary event that happened to the Prophet and the Prophet, while the karamah of an extraordinary event that Allah gave to the saints, then can these two extraordinary events only be used once when absolutely necessary, or can they be repeated?

Thank you for the knowledge and answers, jazakumullah khoiro.

ANSWER:

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

A miracle is an extraordinary miracle experienced by the prophets and messengers at the will of Allah SWT, as proof of the truth and validity of the message they convey. The word miracle comes from Arabic which means to weaken or make you unable.

History records that the struggle of the prophets and messengers in delivering their message was extraordinary, they got a lot of opposition and obstacles, even by their own people. For that Allah SWT gave miracles to him as a form of proof and truth about prophethood and apostolate.

The miracles of the prophets could be in the form of knowledge, ability, strength, and sufficiency, so that what happened could be an event (temporal), such as Noah making an ark in the desert when Allah was about to drown his people. Or, Prophet Yunus who survived the Nun Fish. However, there are abilities that Allah gave throughout the lives of the Prophets, such as the ability of Prophet Solomon to talk to jinn and animals, Prophet David who had a sweet voice, and others.

One of the special miracles of the Prophets is the Qur'an as an eternal miracle, because its influence is continuous. It is very easy for every believer, anytime and anywhere to see this miracle by just reading and meditating on the Qur'an.

While karomah comes from Arabic with the origin of the word "Karuma" with the letter ra which has the community dhammah. For the masdar it is "Karaman" with fathatain (two fatias).

The word "Karamah" when identified with something valuable and authoritative, it is said to be something noble. Therefore, karamah literally means noble.

In the view of Sufi scholars, karamah is an extraordinary state given by Allah subhanahu wa taala kepada para wali-Nya. Wali ialah orang yang beriman, bertakwa, dan beramal shaleh kepada Allah subhanahu wa taala. As Allah said in QS. Jonah (10): 62-64;

“Remember, actually the saints of Allah have no fear of them, and they are not sad. (Namely) those who are faithful and pious. For them good news in life in this world and in the hereafter…. ” (Surah Yunus (10): 62-64).

According to KH Soleh Darat, one of the archipelago ulama, the karamah which is owned by the guardian is not only visible when alive. But after he died, waliyullah were still given karamah.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
