The Nature of the Prophet's Prayer: When Waking Up from Ruku' and I'tidal Position (22)

DDHK.ORG - The practice of praying from the time of our ancestors to the present day generally uses the standard of prayer described by the Shafi'i school of thought. This is because the majority of the Indonesian population is generally the Shafi'i school of thought. The scholars who spread Islam in the archipelago, of course, were also scholars of the Shafi'i school of thought. So automatically the practice of prayer is based on the fiqh of the Shafi'i school of thought.

Through this series of articles, DDHK News describes the nature of the prayer of the Prophet Muhammad based on the Shafi'i school, as written by Muhammad Ajib, Lc., MA. in his book "Sahih Evidence of the Prophet's Prayer Ala Madzhab Syafi'iy".

Reading tasmi' and tahmid when i'tidal

It is sunnah for the imam, the congregation, and those who pray alone to say "Sami'allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana lakal Hamdu, and so on".

First proposition: From a friend of Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu anhu said: The Prophet when he read: Sami'allahu liman hamidah he said: Rabana walakal hamdu. (Hadith narrated by Bukhari & Muslim)

Second argument: From a friend Hudzaifah Radhiyallahu anhu said: The Prophet when he woke up from bowing' read: Sami'allahu liman hamidah Rabana lakal hamdu mil'us samawati wamil'ul ardhi wamil'u maa syi'ta min syai'in ba'du. (Hadith narrated by Muslim)

Raising both hands when getting up from bowing'

From the companions of Ibn Umar radhiyallahu anhu that the Prophet when he prayed raised his hands, when he bowed he also raised his hands and when he got up from bowing he also raised his hands. (Hadith narrated by Bukhari & Muslim)

Straighten your hands when the i'tidal position

In the Shafi'i school, it is sunnah to keep the hands straight when I'tidal. There's no need for a hug anymore.

Imam an-Nawawi said: if you stand in the i'tidal position, you should straighten your hands.

From the companions of Abu Hazim Radhiyallahu anhu said: We were ordered to put our right hand on top of the left wrist. (Hadith narrated by Bukhari)

From the companion of Wail bin Hujr Radhiyallahu anhu he saw the Prophet raise his hands in prayer and then put his right hand on top of his left hand. (Hadith narrated by Muslim)

From a friend of Wail bin Hujr Radhiyallahu anhu, he saw the Prophet praying facing the Qiblah then takbir and raising both hands to the level of his ears. Then he placed his right hand on the back of the left palm. (Hadith narrated by Abu Dawud)

If we pay attention to the 3 hadiths above, then we know that the Prophet had his arms crossed when he stood there reading Al-Quranonly. The i'tidal is different from the previous Qiyam. Because in I'tidal there is no recitation required Al-Quran. So it is not prescribed to hug either. Wallahu a'lam.
