Only 7 thousand Indonesian citizens in Hong Kong who use the right to vote

elections in hong kong 2014DDHK News, Hong Kong - Only 2014 thousand Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Hong Kong exercised their voting rights in the 30 Legislative Election in Victoria Park, Sunday (3/7). From the Final Voters List (DPT) in the 2014 Election of 117.065, there were 110.065 ballots left.

The data was presented by the Executive Director of Migrant CARE, Anis Hidayah, who also monitored the elections in Hong Kong.

“There are 110.065 ballots left over from the legislative elections held on March 30, 2014 in Hong Kong. The Permanent Voters List in the 2014 Election amounted to 117.065. Of that amount, only seven thousand ballots were used, ”said Anis as reported tempo.co.

Anis and several Migrant Care activists visited Hong Kong March 30, 2014. At that time, his agency monitored the elections that were held earlier than in the country (early voting). Voters, he said, cast their votes by post and visited the polling stations located in Victoria Park. "Most of the (migrant) workers who cast their vote."

Of the seven thousand voters, said Anis, three thousand of them are registered voters in the Final Voters List. The rest are those who are not registered, but still use their voting rights. This condition, he said, indicates that the direct election mechanism in the public area is not yet effective.

He assessed that the socialization of foreign election officials is still low. "The validity of Hong Kong's 117.065 Overseas DPT is also questionable," he said.

Migrant CARE asked the Election Supervisory Agency in Hong Kong to ensure that there was no misuse of the remaining paper. "It must be ensured that the remaining ballot papers are not used to inflate the votes," he said.

He also hopes that in the presidential election, Overseas Election Organizers will make improvements and validation of the Final Voters List. This is done by strengthening active socialization in locations that are gathering areas for migrant workers. Organizers, he said, must maximize socialization on social media, such as website and Facebook of the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong.
