Nadzar Happens 1 to 3 Years Later, Must It Be Done?

Peace, mercy and blessings of God

Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

I once said, "If he becomes my husband, I will give one goat to charity." My question is, if within 1 to 1 years later it becomes a reality, does that vow still have to be fulfilled?

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

ليكم السلام الله ات

Bismillah... Nadzar must be fulfilled for those who have said it. With the condition, the vows are a matter of obedience to Allah, not a matter of immorality.

Allah Subhanahu wata'ala says:

لۡیَقۡضُوا۟ لۡیُوفُوا۟ لۡیَطَّوَّفُوا۟ لۡبَیۡتِ لۡعَتِیقِ {سورة الحج: }

"Then, let them remove the dirt (which is in their bodies), complete their vows, and perform tawaf around the free house (Baitullah)". {Surat al-Hajj: 29}

The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said:

أَنْ يُطِيعَ اللَّهَ لْيُطِعْهُ، لا (رواه البخاري)

"Whoever makes a vow to obey Allah, then obey (do it). And whoever makes a vow to disobey Him, let him not disobey Him." (HR Bukhari)

There are two kinds of vows in Islam. First, Nadzar munajjaz (نذر ). Namely, vows that are cash, cash, and at that time must be fulfilled without any binding conditions. For example, people say: "By Allah I will give 1 dinar in charity". So immediately after the pledge, the vows must be fulfilled.

Second, Nadzar mu'allaq (نذر لّق). That is, vows that are bound or dependent on certain conditions. For example, someone said: "By Allah I will give 1 dinar if I succeed in working in Hong Kong". Nadzar mu'allaq is what most people say.

Then, what if someone makes a nazdar mu'allaq but the specified conditions have not been fulfilled? Like, "By Allah I will give one goat in charity if he becomes my husband". Is he obliged to fulfill his vows even if it happens 2 or 3 years later?

The answer is that if it happens at some point, it must be done. But if it does not happen even to death, then he is not obliged to fulfill his vows. But if it has not happened but he fulfills his vows, then it is considered sunnah and rewarding, but does not invalidate the obligation to fulfill the vows if one day it happens.

Hope it works!

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.
