Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Passes Completion Review

DDHK. ORG – The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge was declared of a quality construction. This was stated by a settlement review committee put together by Chinese authorities on Wednesday.

The committee was formed jointly by the Ministry of Transport, the National Development and Reform Commission, Hong Kong and the Affairs Office of the State Council Macau.

Reporting from Chinadaily HK, this project has set many world records and can provide valuable lessons for the infrastructure development of major sea crossings in the future.

The building facilitates people-to-person exchange and trade in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, cutting the time required to drive from Zhuhai City to Hong Kong International Airport from approximately 4 hours to 45 minutes.

By the end of 2022, the Zhuhai land port of the bridge had handled more than 500 billion yuan (about 72,7 billion US dollars) of imports and exports involving 230 countries and regions since the bridge opened in October 2018, official data shows.

Traffic through the land port of Zhuhai has steadily increased since the mainland fully resumed travel with the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau on February 6, official data revealed.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the longest cross-sea bridge in the world, helping to make life between the two cities of Ella a reality.

This gigantic Y-shaped project stretches over the Lingding Strait in southern China for 55 km, linking the mainland province of Guangdong with the country's two special administrative regions, Hong Kong and Macau. The construction consisting of a series of bridges, artificial islands and tunnels makes it easier to travel that was previously separated by canals.

Thanks to the bridge, drivers traveling between the three places don't have to make any more detours. The journey from Hong Kong to the other two was cut from 200km to 65km and from three and a half hours to just 45 minutes. [DDHK News]
