Hong Kong Agrees Comirnaty Vaccine Formula for Children Under 5 Years

DDHK. ORG - Government Hong Kong announced, the Comirnaty vaccine formula for children under 5 years has been approved for emergency use.

Reporting from dimsumdaily.hk, Lau Yu-long, one of the government's expert advisors and Chair Professor of Pediatrics, University of Hong Kong said on a radio program this morning, Thursday (13/10/2022) that the expert committee will meet this afternoon.

They discussed whether to relax the interval period between childhood vaccination doses and whether it could be shortened to no less than four weeks before taking another shot.

He also stressed that he would put safety first, and consider factors such as the recent rebound in the case COVID-19 confirmed.

Lau revealed, level vaccination children aged 3 to 11 years in Hong Kong is 86%, and citing data that there are about 18.000 of the 120.000 children under the age of 3 in Hong Kong who have received the first injection.

More than 100.000 children are still unvaccinated. Among them, around 22.000 children under the age of 3 have been infected with COVID-19. Among them, two died and 20 became seriously ill, with a mortality rate of about 1 in 10.000.

Over 5 Years

Currently, Vaccine Pass is suitable for children over 5 years old, and many of them have been vaccinated.

Lau believes that there is no need to buy too much vaccine formula for those over 5 years old, while more formula for those under 5 years old can be purchased.

He said that if children aged between 5 and 11 years had been vaccinated with the first diluted dose of the adult version of Comirnaty, the second dose could be vaccinated with the children's formula.

If a young child has been vaccinated with Sinovac before, it is recommended not to mix it with the Comirnaty vaccine. [DDHK News]
