French Islamic Conference Discusses Marriage and Family Issues

DDHK News, France - France's largest Islamic conference, Le Bourget, was held again. The issue of marriage and family issues is an important discussion. This includes, European countries' policy issues regarding same-sex marriage and gender equality.

President of the Union of French Islamic Organizations (UIOF), Amar Lasfar, said the development of this issue has become an important concern of Muslims. The reason is, the developing issue is contrary to Islamic teachings. "This is what worries us," he said as reported republica.co.id from RFM TV, Monday (21/4).

This issue is strategic considering that the French government has enacted a controversial marriage law (UU) policy in May 2013. Through this law, France has become the 14th country in the world to recognize same-sex marriage.

Secretary General of the Seine Saint-Denis Muslim Association Union, Hammed Henniche assessed that same-sex marriage and gender equality will trigger differences in views among Muslims. As a whole, Islam does not allow same-sex marriage.

"In the end, there will be radical differences between Muslims and the government," he said.

Muslim scholar, Tariq Ramadan, emphasized that same-sex marriage is against Islam. "Marriage is against Islam and every Muslim must be aware of it," he said. (ROLLER)
