DDHK News, United States - Commemoration of World Hijab Day (World Hijab Day) second on 1 February 2014 is expected to involve a million participants around the world. This event aims to raise awareness of the veil as a right of Muslim women and educate the public about the basic use of the hijab for Muslim women.
"Hijab is my pride. I carry out what is stated in Al-Quran. Hijab covers my head, not my mind. The hijab shows my honor, not my body, ”wrote a German Muslim woman, Zainab Warda Mohammed, on the page Facebook World Hijab Day.
Mohammed is one of a million participants expected to attend the event. The first World Hijab Day activity was initiated by a woman from New York, Nazma Khan, to encourage non-Muslim women to know more about the hijab and its user experience.
Apart from that, World Hijab Day is also meant to foster a better understanding and fight bad prejudices about the choice of Muslim women to make a hijaj.
Khan's proposal last year received worldwide support. Group information is generated in 22 languages. Dozens of people contacted Khan from various countries including Britain, Australia, India, Pakistan, France and Germany.
By opening up new ways of cultivating understanding, Khan hopes that the controversy about why Muslim women choose to wear the hijab can be resolved.
In a similar activity last year, a student from England, Jess Rhodes, became one of the hundreds of participants who ended up wearing a hijab after joining World Hijab Day.
