The Number of Women Is Increasingly Dominant in Hong Kong

DDHK.ORG - The latest figures released by the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department on Thursday, 28 July 2022, show that the gender imbalance in Hong Kong is widening. The number of women is said to be more dominant over the number of men in the Concrete Country.

Based on the population census conducted last year, there were around 4 million women and around 3,3 million men in 2021. That figure does not include foreign domestic workers.

"There are 910 men for every 1.000 women, 15 fewer than in 2016 when the last population census was conducted," RTHK quoted Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department officials as saying.

Recent data also reveals that fewer people will be married in 2021. The crude marriage rates for women and men are 6,7 percent and 8 percent, respectively. The figures represent a decrease of about 45 percent when compared to 2016. The crude marriage rate is the number of annual marriages per 1.000 inhabitants.

It was also recorded that there were 39.953 births in 2021. That number was also recorded down nearly 40 percent from 2016.

however, it also found statistics that women still make less money than men in Hong Kong. The median monthly income for women, excluding foreign domestic workers, is HK$17,500. That figure is HK$2.500 lower than the average income of a Concrete Country man. [DDHKNews]
