Daily Covid-19 Cases Still High, Hong Kong Extends Social Distance Rules Until August 10

DDHK.ORG - On Tuesday, 26 July 2022, the Hong Kong Government announced that the existing social distancing measures would be extended until 10 August. The policy was taken because the number of daily COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong remained high at four digits with a continuous upward trend.

"The overall number of hospitalized patients continues to increase as the caseload increases, with a marked spike in the number of serious or critical cases," the government's official website said.

Although the proportion of cases is relatively stable for now, the increase has put pressure on public health services. "Balancing the need to contain the epidemic and enabling social and economic activities, the Government decided to maintain existing social distancing measures for the next 14-day cycle without any relaxation."

All eateries and scheduled venues are permitted to continue operating subject to strict compliance with requirements. This includes the use of the Vaccine Pass and LeaveHomeSafe applications. Other requirements, such as the use of masks for residents on public transportation and certain public places, as well as a ban on gathering in public places, also remain in effect.

The government stressed that it would monitor the trend of the epidemic and carefully consider social distancing measures for the next stage. The goal is to effectively contain the transmission of the virus without affecting people's daily activities as far as possible. [Source: news.gov.hk] [DDHKNews]
