Hong Kong Government Adapts Pandemic Measures Based on WHO Guidelines

DDHK. ORG – Post-pandemic, Government Hong Kong began to open the faucet of freedom in various fields. As is known, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on May 5 that COVID-19 was no longer a public health emergency of international concern and had raised the emergency status health related communities.

In response to media inquiries, the Hong Kong government stated on May 6 that it would refer to WHO's latest opinion on the pandemic, assess the local situation, risks and mutations of the virus, and adjust remaining measures and arrangements regarding the pandemic. The government will announce updates in due course.

Reporting from Dimsumdaily, The Hong Kong government also noted that WHO has emphasized that although the emergency phase of the COVID-19 pandemic has ended, the pandemic is still ongoing, and the number of local cases has continued to increase in recent days.

The government will continue to closely monitor the mutation and risk of the virus and focus on protecting high-risk groups, taking into account the latest assessment by WHO.

Since the lifting of the mask mandate in early March, all anti-epidemic measures applicable to society have been lifted, and society has returned to normal. COVID-19 is now being managed as a common respiratory infection, and the focus of anti-epidemic measures remains on protecting high-risk groups.

Previously, the World Health Organization (WHO) also still recommended that health workers continue to wear masks because they are worried that the virus is "circulating more around the world at this time".

Hong Kong has long been a city known for having several strict policies regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. The city has imposed a strict quarantine, which can last up to 21 days.

Those who are quarantined are also not allowed to receive visits. In addition, the windows in the residence must also be tightly locked during isolation.

Apart from Hong Kong, other Asian regions such as South Korea, Japan and Taiwan have also revoked the mandatory mask rule in their regions. [DDHK News]
