Swedish Citizen Who Blasphemed Prophet Muhammad Died in Car Accident

DDHK.ORG - A Swedish artist who blasphemed the Prophet Muhammad named Lars Vilks was reported dead in a car accident on Sunday (3/10/2021). According to local Swedish media Dagens Nyheter, CNN Indonesia reported that the lover of the caricature drawing of the Prophet Muhammad confirmed his death.

CNN Indonesia also launched a local news agency, TT, which also reported that police confirmed Vilks' death in a collision between a truck and a police car near Markryd. At that time, Vilks was driving with the police guarding him.

The head of the regional investigation unit responsible for the protection of individuals in the region, Stefan Sinteus, said the accident was a very tragic event.

"Now it's important we do everything we can to find out what happened at the site and what caused the collision," he said.

Vilks himself was initially unknown outside Sweden. After he drew the head of the Prophet Muhammad on the body of a dog, the world was in an uproar and began to recognize him.

In 2010, Swedish newspapers reprinted the controversial cartoon, after two Muslim men were arrested and charged in Ireland for the alleged plot to murder Vilks.

From then on, Vilks received numerous death threats and lived under police protection. In 2013, for example, an American woman calling herself Jihadi Jane was sentenced to 10 years in prison for plotting to kill Vilks. [DDHKNews]
