Ruling on reading the Qur'an during menstruation

Assalamualaikum. Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

Is it permissible to read the Qur'an during menstruation, such as Surah Al Fatihah, An Nas, Al Falaq, and reading other surahs?

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

Wassalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarokaatuh.

Thanks for the question. Generally, scholars agree that women who are menstruating are among those who are in janabah. And people who are in janabah are indeed forbidden to read the Qur'an.

There are many evidences for its prohibition, including the following hadith:

لاَ الْحَائِضُ لاَ الْجُنُبُ ا الْقُرْآنِ

"Let no one who is menstruating or junub read anything from Al-Quran." (Hadith narrated by Tirmizy)

Except, in the heart or prayer / remembrance whose pronunciation is taken from the verse Al-Quran indirectly, and usually read remembrance.

However, there is also an opinion that allows menstruating women to read Al-Quran with a note not touching the Mushaf and afraid of forgetting to memorize it if the menstrual period is too long. Also, in reading it not too much.

This opinion is the opinion of Malik. This is stated in Bidayatul Mujtahid volume 1 page 133.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
