Scottish Muslims Preach Islam through Dhuafa Care

Scots-Put-Prophets-Sunnah-into-ActionsDDHK News, Scotland - A Scottish Muslim group, Taught by Muhammad, preaches Islam through concrete actions in the form of caring for the poor.

They are trying to implement the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad about "loving others as self-love."

This group provides opportunities for young Muslims to volunteer and help those in need in their city.

"We want to preach through our actions," said Samir Zaveri, one of the founders of the Taught by Muhammad volunteer group, via email to OnIslam.net.

“We want to show the world what they hear about Islam in the media mainstream not true. We want people to see firsthand what our beloved prophet (Muhammad Saw) taught us, "he added.

Taught By Muhammad started its activities in January 2014 by operating a food bank to help poor Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

They also form an online community via Facebook. The volunteers were able to raise money to provide 10 backpacks with some warm clothes and food for the homeless on the streets.

"After talking to some homeless people, it became clear that many of them were on the streets through no fault of their own," Rizwan Rafik, a founding member, told OnIslam.net.

"I see they have very few basic needs and feel that we need to help them ... I personally wouldn't be able to survive the cold ..."

The feedback from the homeless and others has been great and shows that the Muslim community really cares.

"The Prophet Muhammad taught us to love others as we love ourselves, and he would not leave homeless people in that situation," added Rafik.

Scotland is home to more than 50.000 Muslims who make up 1,4 percent of the population. Muslims are the second largest religious group in the country which has thirty mosques. (mel / onislam.net / localhost / project / personal / ddhongkong.org / ddhongkong.org). *
