Saturday, 2 Fires Engulf Hong Kong

HONG KONG - Two fires hit Hong Kong yesterday, Saturday (25/4/2020). The location, at Hung Shui Kiu and North Point.

Hong Kong's public broadcaster Radio Television (RTHK) said a one-year-old baby boy died after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Hung Shui Kiu, near Yuen Long, on Saturday night. "The boy was among five people who were taken to hospital after the fire broke out at Treasure Court," wrote RTHK.

The fire started to appear around 19:30 and went out half an hour later. The injured victims were immediately rushed to the Tin Shui Wai, Tuen Mun, and Pok Oi hospitals. Meanwhile the unlucky boy died at the Tin Shui Wai hospital facility. Police believe, all those treated at the hospital are from the same family.

Witnesses said that when the apartment caught fire several neighbors used the stairs to go up, smashed windows and carried out the rescue. Neighbors who saw the fire immediately contacted the firefighters and asked for help. Within minutes, they came and put out the fire.

Big Fire at the North Point Pedestrian Bridge

Meanwhile, the Dimsum Daily news portal reported that a fire broke out at the pedestrian bridge over Tong Shui Street, North Point. As is well known, this fire caused a stir in the Indonesian migrant worker community (PMI) Hong Kong. Pictures and videos of the fire went viral on WhatsApp and Facebook groups.

“Around 7am today, a pedestrian overpass on Tong Shui Road, North Point caught fire. Flames and plumes of black smoke could be seen and the sound of explosions could be heard from the burning bridge. Many eye witnesses asked the police for help. Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the fire at 7.20am. There were no victims in the incident, ”wrote Dimsum Daily, Saturday.

Reportedly, many homeless people live and spend the night on the bridge living on the bridge and there are many piles of flammable objects there. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. As a result of the fire, traffic on the Island Eastern Corridor and King's Road was interrupted. Hong Kong Tram Officers are deployed to ensure tram services are not affected.
