Activist: Rohingya Muslims are being treated like animals

Rohingyas-Treated-Like-Animals-ActivistDDHK News, Mynamar - A prominent Rohingya political activist has accused the Myanmar (Burna) government of treating Muslims like "animals", amid reports of Buddhist mobs burning dozens of Rohingya Muslim homes in Arakan state.

"Muslims in Myanmar are treated like animals," said a prominent Rohingya political activist who asked not to be named International Business Times England, Wednesday (29/1).

“I was very scared. We don't have any protection in this country, ”he explained. “We don't have anything here. The government is hostile to us ”.

During the last two years Myanmar Muslims have continued to be attacked by Buddhist mobs led by their monks.

The latest attacks come in recent days, as the heads of UN humanitarian agencies and human rights organizations reported credible evidence of the massacre of at least 48 Rohingya Muslims, mostly women and children, in the western part of Rakhine state in Burma.

Official media and Myanmar's Ministry of Information denied the reports. However, a Thailand-based NGO, the Arakan Project, said it had received several reports that dozens of Rohingya Muslims were killed by security forces and Arakan Buddhists.

Human rights activists accuse the Myanmar government of doing little to stop anti-Muslim discrimination.

"There is a growing movement designed to isolate the Muslim community socially and economically," said Matthew Smith, executive director of the human rights group Fortify Rights.

Rights groups also accuse Burmese security forces of murdering, raping and arresting Rohingya Muslims after last year's sectarian violence. (mel / onislam.net / localhost / project / personal / ddhongkong.org / ddhongkong.org). *
