Kuwaiti youth are reluctant to become priests

DDHK News - A large number of Kuwaiti youth are not interested in becoming imams (religious leaders who work in mosques). They consider the position to be restrictive because an imam has to lead prayers five times a day. The data is presented daily Al-Qabas quoting the mosque affairs official at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Dr. Waleed Al-Shuaib.

Although the ministry offers a number of benefits, accommodation and a large salary, the young people have not shown enthusiasm for the job.

Al-Shuaib said the mosque was free from extremist ideology. He also said the inspectors were keeping an eye on the mosque. The Imam and the muezzin act as the ministry's "army" to protect the mosque from intrusion by foreigners. The ministry also monitors non-Arabic publications and books.

In addition, he explained, the ministry had completed the procedure for recruiting imams and muezzins from Egypt and Yemen. His party is also looking for imams and muezzins from Morocco. (Mel / Arab Times). *
