Indonesia is the largest supplier of labor to Korea

Indonesia is the largest supplier of labor to Korea and to date there are around 30.000 Indonesian workers working in the country.

Director of the Government Placement Service of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers, Dr Haposan Saragih, said this after giving a briefing in preparation for the Korean language test for workers who will be sent to the country at Sebelas Maret University Surakarta (UNS), Saturday.

For 2010, Korea provides a quota of workers to Indonesia of 9.000 people. "This share could still increase if the country's economic development improves," said Haposan who was accompanied by AB Rachman, head of the Central Java Workforce Placement and Protection Service Center.

"The demand for workers from Korea is quite large compared to Japan, which this year is not more than 1.000 people," he said.

Talking about the Korean language for Indonesian workers who will be sent to Korea, he said, around 16.000 people came from Yogyakarta, Central Java and parts of East Java.

"This Korean language test will also be carried out by the Korean people themselves and we are helping with the implementation and holding training," he said.

Regarding the demand for workers from Indonesia for Korea as many as 9.000 people in 2010, AB Rachman said it could be fulfilled. "In Central Java alone, there are currently 1,3 million unemployed when the need for that much workforce cannot be met," he said.

In Central Java, in 2009 there was a demand for workforce of 60.000 people, but it could only be fulfilled by around 34.000 people. (ANTARA News)
