Every Eid al-Adha, Singaporean Muslims order and distribute thousands of sacrificial animals to Kulon Progo

Every time Idul Adha, as many as 4 thousand to 6 thousand goats and sheep are ordered by Muslim residents in Singapore from breeders from Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. This has been going on for the last few years.

"Every year there are at least 4 (heads), the highest record is 6," said the Assistant to the DIY Regional Secretariat for Economy and Development who is also the former Acting Regent of Kulon Progo, Tri Saktiyana, at the Kepatihan Complex, Yogyakarta City, Friday (23/6/2023 ), as reported by CNN Indonesia.

According to Tri, the thousands of goats and sheep were ordered from Rajendra Farm in the Trahu, Ngargosari, Samigaluh area, which belongs to a native of Kulon Progo. "Those who own (Rajendra Farm) are people from Kulon Progo, retired," added Tri.

Uniquely, the cattle were not sent to the sacrificial companions in Singapore. Instead, it is slaughtered during Eid al-Adha. Then, the meat is distributed to the people of Kulon Progo and its surroundings.

“The process of slaughtering was videoized. So this is the sohibul sacrificial animal, whoever said it was slaughtered, it (the video) was sent to Singaporean Muslims," he said.

Another thing that is no less interesting, the relationship between Rajendra Farm and the buyer in Singapore is not based on contractual cooperation either. Tri said, orders to breeders are made individually.

According to Tri, the volume of requests that reach thousands per year is due to the effect of word of mouth alone.

"It has nothing to do with the Singaporean government. That's person to person, yes it can be up to 6 thousand from word of mouth. Yes, there are also Muslim groups, recitation group A, recitation group B," said Tri.

Tri said, the relationship between Rajendra Farm and the buyers in Singapore has been going on for the last five to six years. Although, pioneering and raising this business takes about 15 years for the owner.

Tri continued, most of the needs for goats and sheep ordered by Singaporean sohibul were fulfilled mostly from Kulon Progo. The rest, taken from neighboring areas, namely Magelang, Central Java.

"A small part of Magelang," he said.
