Ikhwan: America Should Be Positively Responding to the Islamic Movement

The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood held a meeting with Deputy Secretary of State for the United States (US) William Burns in Cairo. At the same time, the Ikhwan also asked the US, which is Israel's partner, to respond positively to the Islamic movement.

The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), which is led by the Ikhwan, is currently winning the most votes in Egypt's general elections and is predicted to dominate Parliament. FJP chairman Mohammed Mursi said the relationship between Egypt and the US was very important, but it had to be balanced.

Mursi welcomed Burns' presence in Cairo and asked the US to review its foreign policy in line with events Arab spring which overthrew the power of the leaders of Arab countries such as in Libya and Tunisia. Mursi also asked the US to respond positively to every Islamic movement.

The Ikhwan previously assessed that US foreign policy tends to be biased and always supports Israel.

Despite holding meetings with the Ikhwan, Burns did not meet with representatives of the Al-Nur Party, which is controlled by Egypt's Salafists. Al-Nur is an Islamic party that has also emerged as the flagship in Egypt, after the Muslim Brotherhood. This is as reported AFP, Thursday (12/1/2012).

One of the things that the US has paid enough attention to regarding the Brotherhood's victory in the Egyptian elections is the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel. The US has also claimed that the Ikhwan will guarantee the continuity of the agreement despite the referendum issue. (afp / okezone.com). *
