Winning Election Again, Erdogan Becomes President of Türkiye for 3 Periods

Recep Tayyip Erdogan was re-elected as President of Turkey after winning the country's second round of elections which were held on Sunday, 28 May 2023. The incumbent managed to reap 52,14 percent of the votes from the voting results. His rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, pocketed 47,86 percent of the vote.

With this result, Erdogan will serve as President of Turkey until 2028. "The elections in 2023 will be the third time that Erdogan has won in 20 years of ruling Turkey," wrote CNN Indonesia.

He was first elected president in 2014, having served as Prime Minister of Turkey from 2003 to 2014.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has congratulated. “Warmest congratulations to my brother President Erdogan @RTErdogan from Turkiye who is re-elected (as president). Ready to continue and strengthen the Indonesia-Turkey long-term strategic partnership for the benefit of our people," Jokowi tweeted on Monday, May 29, 2023.
