The Law of Moaning When Sick

DDHK.ORG - For a sick person, it is permissible for him to report the pain he is suffering to a doctor or a relative, as long as it is not accompanied by anger and despair. In the previous section it was mentioned that the Messenger of Allah once said, "I have a fever that is twice as high as those of you who have a fever."

Sayyidah Aisyah also complained to the Messenger of Allah for the pain she was experiencing. He said, "Ouch, my head hurts." Then the Messenger of Allah said, "My head hurts even more."

Once, Abdullah bin Zubair asked Asma 'who was sick at that time, "How are you?" Asma' replied, "I feel pain."

For people who are sick, he should praise Allah first before he tells what happened to others. Ibn Mas'ud said, "If gratitude is done before he groans for it, then his groaning is not a complaint." And complaining to Allah is part of the teachings of the Shari'a. Prophet Ya'qub said:

"Only to Allah I complain of my troubles and my sorrows." [Surah Yusuf (12): 86]

Rasulullah SAW said:

"O Allah, verily I complain to You of the weakness of my strength."

For people who are sick, he will still get a reward for the deeds he used to do while he was still healthy. Imam Bukhari narrated from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, that the Messenger of Allah said:

"If a servant is sick or on a journey, it is recorded for him as he did the deeds he used to do while living and being healthy." [Excerpted from the book of Fiqh Sunnah, by Sayyid Sabiq] [DDHkNews]
