Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad SAW during Eid al-Fitr

DDHK. ORG – The Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad during Eid al-Fitr can be done as an addition to worship. The Prophet Muhammad SAW has provided guidance on what things need to be done at the moment of Hari Raya Eid Al-Fitri.

Reporting from Republica, Ibn Qayyim al Jauziyyah, in the book Zadul Ma'ad, reviews what is Rasulullah SAW did on two Islamic holidays, namely Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

In the book it is stated that the Prophet Muhammad SAW showed his joy on Eid al-Fitr. The Prophet SAW also brought his joy to the hearts of all Muslims, especially boys and girls.

The Prophet Muhammad used to perform the Eid prayers in an open field area located east of Medina, in the al-Manakha area.

This location is located about 300 meters from the Nabawi Mosque. As a form of respect for the custom of the Prophet SAW to offer prayers at that place, a mosque was built which was named the Al-Mushalla Mosque, which is a mosque for prayer. Now the mosque is known as Al Ghamamah Mosque.

"He (the Prophet SAW) did not pray at his mosque (Nabawi Mosque), except once when it was raining, so he led Muslims to carry out the Eid al-Fitr prayers at the mosque," the book quoted him as saying.

The companions of the Prophet Muhammad used to take a bath first before carrying out the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha prayers. There are several narrations from the companions of the Prophet SAW which explain the goodness of taking a bath before carrying out the Eid prayer.

However, Ibn Qayyim explained that there is no authentic hadith from the Prophet Muhammad that mentions the Prophet's habit of bathing before the Eid prayers.

One of the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad on holidays is to bring joy to Muslims. Therefore, the Prophet SAW used to wear his best clothes to perform Eid prayers.

"He has a special suit that he wears only for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, as well as Fridays," explained Ibnu Qayyim.

The Prophet Muhammad also used to eat dates before going out to perform the Eid prayers. As for Eid al-Adha, the Prophet SAW would not eat until he returned home from the Eid prayer. [DDHK News]
