Listyo Sigit Prabowo Appointed Chief of Police

Listyo Sigit Prabowo officially serves as the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Police chief) after being inaugurated by President Joko Widodo at the State Palace, Wednesday (27/1/2021). The 1991 graduate of the Police Academy (Akpol) replaced General Idham Aziz, who has retired.

Before the inauguration procession began, Jokowi, who chaired the ceremony, asked about Listyo's willingness to take his oath to be appointed as the head of the Bhayangkara Corps.

"Will I be willing to take an oath based on Christianity?" asked Jokowi.

"Willing," answered Listyo.

Afterward, Listyo read out the oath of office with the guidance of religious leaders with Jokowi.

"By God Almighty, express and promise earnestly that I will be loyal to the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia based on Pancasila and the 1945 Republic of Indonesia Constitution," Listyo said, repeating Jokowi's words in one of his oath of office sentences.

At the inauguration of the National Police Chief, Listyo was promoted to one level to become General.

Handle Covid, Guard the Economy

General Listyo delivered his first speech after officially serving as National Police Chief. In his speech, Listyo emphasized the role of the National Police regarding handling the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19).

"We will carry out the task of facing challenges in the future. Of course we all know that we are currently facing the Covid pandemic, how do we try to make efforts to tackle Covid," said Listyo at the State Palace.

On the other hand, Listyo also talked about the role of the National Police in guarding the national economic growth which was also affected by the pandemic. "And how can the National Police help safeguard the national economic growth so that all of us can be separated from the existing situation and the economy can grow again," said Listyo.

"This can all be done if the stability of Kamtibmas runs smoothly and well," he added.

Track record

Prior to taking over as the head of the National Police, a man born in Ambon, May 5, 1969, General Listyo led the Duren Sawit Police in 1999 and Tambora Police in 2003. Listyo was later appointed as the Head of the Surakarta City Police in 2011.

It was in Solo that he started to get close to Jokowi, who was then Mayor. His proximity to Surakarta is also said to have made Jokowi, when he became President, put him in a number of strategic positions.

After serving in Solo, Listyo was withdrawn to Jakarta and served as Head of Sub-Directorate II of the General Crime Directorate of Bareskrim Polri in 2012.

When Jokowi won the 2014 presidential election, Listyo was then assigned to be the President's adjutant. The next two years, he headed the Banten Regional Police, then the Head of the Police Professional and Security Division in 2018.

Holders a Masters degree in Police Science at the University Indonesia He then returned to the field of investigation when he was appointed Head of the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency in 2019, replacing Idham Aziz who was then appointed as Chief of Police.
