Irena Handono: Muslims Need to Return to 'Iqro'

The problems of Muslims in Indonesia are considered not far from the quality of faith. According to Irena Handono, a former nun who is now a preacher, the Muslim community in Indonesia is only large in number.

"But sorry, we still need to improve in quality," he said during a conversation with Republika, Friday (30/12).

The quality of faith, he continued, is very important in preventing the erosion of culture and thought. "For example, there are so many teenagers who are tempted and join in with the Valentine culture. Whereas Islam is a religion of rahmatan lil alamin, "he said.

According to him, this is because Muslims in Indonesia are still losing in terms of the cultural arena. "Young people always accept whatever comes from the West is considered the best," he said wistfully.

To overcome this, it is very important to return to the 'Iqro' (reading) movement. He said it was very necessary for Muslims to always seek knowledge by reading a lot. "All the problems that befall the people at this time must be disclosed, so that the people will understand and there will be awareness to return to iqro," he said. (Republika). *
