Is it permissible to pray Dluha every day?

Is it permissible to pray Dluha every day?

Assalamualaikum. Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

Is it true that the Dluha sunnah prayer should not be performed every day? Please enlighten.

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

Wassalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarokaatuh.

Duha prayer is a sunnah prayer that is done during the day, starting from the beginning of the afternoon when the sun is one or two spears high until before the sun is directly above our heads.

The dhuha prayer is our joint alms to Allah SWT, as the hadith narrated by the companion of Abu Dharr ra, that the Prophet SAW said:

لى لِّ لامَى لُّ لُّ ليلةٍ المعروفِ ونهيٌ المنكَرِ لك انِ ا الضُّحَى (رواه لم)

"Everyone of you has the right to give alms every morning, so every tahmid reading is charity, every tahlil is a charity, inviting what is right is charity, preventing what is wrong is charity, and that can be fulfilled with two rakaat dluha that he does" . (HR Muslim)

In line with the hadith above, there is also a narration from a friend of Abu Hurairah ra, he said:

اني ليلي لَّى اللهُ ليه لَّم لاثٍ: صيامِ لاثةِ امٍ لِّ الضُّحى، أُوتِرَ ل (متفق ليه)

"My beloved (Prophet) peace be upon me with three things: fasting three days each month, two rakaat dluha, and prayer witr before going to sleep." (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim)

The two hadiths above are recommendations for praying dluha every day. Obviously there is no prohibition to do it every day. In fact, it is highly recommended even if it is only two rakaat. If someone wants to increase the number of rakats, then it is permissible and that is certainly better. As the Prophet used to do it up to eight rak'ahs and also up to the number he wanted.

It is clear that there is no prohibition against a person praying dluha every day. On the contrary, it should be done every day as a form of our gratitude to God who has given favors so that the joints of the body can work properly.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
