Call of History from Majapahit

[Historical Short Story by Fatchuri Rosidin]

For several months, King Kertawijaya was worried. His efforts to rebuild Majapahit from adversity due to the Paregreg war have yet to show results.

The civil war between King Wikramawardhana and Bhre Wirabumi in 1404 completely destroyed Majapahit. The economy has recovered. But in the political field, Majapahit's power continued to weaken and endanger its influence, especially in remote areas such as Malacca and Sumatra. Not to mention that there are many Majapahit officials who now enjoy gambling, corruption, parties, and drinking.

Ratu Dwarawati, the empress, learned about her husband's anxiety and made a suggestion. “I have a nephew who can help educate the princes and aristocrats of Majapahit. His name is Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah from Champa country. If Kanda Prabu is pleased, I will ask him to come to Majapahit. "

The King of Kertawijaya, who had the title of King Brawijaya, beamed on his face and quickly sent an envoy to Champa country.

Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah is the grandson of King Champa. His father was Maulana Malik Ibrahim, a scholar who had already preached in Majapahit and was known as Sunan Gresik. Before preaching to Majapahit, Maulana Ibrahim first preached in Champa and married the daughter of the king of Champa named Dewi Chandrawulan, the sister of the empress of Majapahit Ratu Dwarawati.

Receiving King Kertawijaya's request, Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah felt that this was the way Allah gave him to start his preaching. The blood of adventurers and scholars flowed in him.

His father, Maulana Malik Ibrahim, had introduced Islam to Majapahit. He also succeeded in developing an irrigated agricultural system there until he received an award from the king of Majapahit as Wong Agung Majapahit. His grandfather, Jamaludin Akbar al-Husaini, was also a scholar who preached in Java and Sulawesi and was known as Syeikh Jumadil Kubro.

In 1443 Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah finally arrived at Majapahit and was greeted directly by King Brawijaya at the palace. "Nanda Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah, Majapahit is experiencing a moral decline. Many aristocrats and the people were gambling and drinking. Corruption officials and spending time. Will Nanda Rahmat help improve the behavior of the nobles and people of Majapahit? " asked King Brawijaya.

Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah politely replied, “With pleasure, Great King. I will do my best to educate them. I will continue the struggle of Ramanda Sunan Gresik to educate the morals and behavior of the people of Majapahit. "

Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah's intelligence, breadth of insight, and nobility turned out to captivate King Brawijaya. The king finally married one of his daughters named Dewi Candrawati to Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah. Automatically, now Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah has become a royal family and is then called Raden Rahmat.

Raden Rahmat started his task by opening an education center in the Ampeldenta area, Surabaya. Apart from mastering religion, Raden Rahmat is also an expert on state administration.

The progress of governance in Islamic countries became the reference and direction for state management at that time. Many Islamic state administrators have become government advisors in kingdoms in East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Europe. Raden Rahmat has studied books by Muslim scholars in the field of government. His direct practice has also been seen in Champa and other Islamic countries in his preaching tours.

In the field of morals, Raden Rahmat teaches the philosophy of Moh Limo. Moh means no. Limo means five. Raden Rahmat educates his students not to commit 5 bad deeds: drunkenness (drunkenness), playing (playing gambling), madon (adultery), madat (drugs), and thieves (stealing, robbing, and corruption). In the field of state governance, Raden Rahmat teaches political science and governance.

It didn't take long, Padepokan Ampeldenta was well-known throughout Majapahit and became the center of education for the princes and children of the Majapahit nobility. Not a few of them later became Muslims. Among the people, Raden Rahmat's preaching was widespread and accepted by the community. He later became known as Sunan Ampel.

Even though many princes converted to Islam after studying at Padepokan Ampeldenta, Prabu Brawijaya did not object. He saw that Sunan Ampel's teachings had changed the behavior of the princes who used to gamble and get drunk. The constitutional science he taught also brought positive progress for the governance of Majapahit.

The blood of the clergy was literally flowing within him. He has followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather to become a pioneer of preaching in the archipelago. He also gave birth to children who became great scholars such as Sunan Bonang, Sunan Drajat, Sunan Demak, and Sunan Lamongan.

His daughters became the wives of influential scholars such as Sunan Giri, Sunan Kalijaga and Raden Patah, the founder of the Demak sultanate. Among the ulama in the land of Java, Sunan Ampel is considered an elder and advisor to young ulama who spread to the western region of the island of Java. [Source: www.fatchuri.com] [DDHK News]
