The majority of Omicron Covid patients in Indonesia are fully vaccinated and without symptoms

DDHK.ORG - As many as 42 cases of the SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.529 variant or the Omicron variant in Indonesia are residents who have received a complete or two dose of Covid-19 vaccine. This information was revealed by the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) last Wednesday, December 29, 2021.

"There are 42 people who have been fully vaccinated, then one person has only received one dose, and the other four have not been vaccinated at all," said the Director of Directly Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control (P2PML) of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, as reported by CNN Indonesia.

Nadia also said that the majority of Omicron cases in Indonesia experienced no symptoms or OTG, although some of them experienced mild symptoms such as cough, runny nose, and a slight fever.

The Covid-19 Vaccination Spokesperson then said that the findings of patients infected with Omicron who experienced no moderate to severe symptoms showed that the Covid-19 vaccine was still effective to ward off COVID-19 as well as new variants that emerged. "Based on WHO information from available data, there is indeed a decrease in efficacy. But the protection of the Covid-19 vaccine against serious illness and death is still very high. So the vaccine still needs to protect us," he said.

68 cases as of December 29

On Wednesday, December 29, the Indonesian government confirmed the addition of 21 cases of omicron. Thus, there are a total of 68 cases in Indonesia.

“This morning we found another 21 people (Omicron patients). So the total cases to date are 68 people," said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin at a press conference.

The Minister of Health explained that of the total addition of 21 people, all of them were imported cases or cases brought from abroad. This means that until now, only one patient has been recorded, which is a local transmission, namely a resident who lives in the Pluit Apartment.

"Most of them are from Turkey and the United Arab Emirates," explained the Minister of Health.

52 deaths in the world

Globally, there have been 278.732 cases of COVID-19, the Omicron variant, since it was detected last November. Patients who died related to this virus reached 52 people worldwide. The data is based on the Omicron variant tracking site, Newsnodes, which was updated on Wednesday (29/12).

Death reports emerged from the UK with 49 cases, as well as the United States, Germany and Australia, with 1 case each. [Source: CNN Indonesia] [DDHKNews]
