Contracts Out, Indonesian Migrant Workers Can Extend Another Month

DDHK.ORG - Indonesian migrant workers whose work contracts expire or expire on or before 31 December 2020 can extend it another month, until 31 January 2021. There are several points stipulated in this policy. First, foreign domestic workers whose work contracts have expired or have been terminated and unable to return to their home countries due to the pandemic there or international travel restrictions, can apply for an extension of the limit of stay for a maximum period of one month as visitors. At that time, it was permissible to find a new employer in Hong Kong.

Second, foreign domestic workers who have extended their limit of stay in Hong Kong under the flexibility arrangements announced in March or June, can apply to the Immigration Department to further extend their limit of stay. "The Immigration Department will implement its policy of extending the limit of stay for a maximum period of one month, depending on the eligibility of each individual," wrote news.gov.hk.

Third, foreign domestic workers who are still unable to return to their place of origin for leave within their current limit of stay can continue to apply for an extension of the limit of stay. And, for those who have been granted a further extension of stay but wish to postpone their leave, the Immigration Department will consider granting them a further extension of the limit of stay, no more than three months.

Fourth, foreign domestic workers who apply for a further extension of the limit of stay and whose contract will expire at the same time, they can apply for a suspension of leave and an extension of their employment contract with the same employer at the same time to the Immigration Department. As a further facilitation measure, the Immigration Department will consider advancing processing of contract renewal applications.

"It also accelerates the processing of work visa applications submitted by foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong, especially applications for changing employers of those whose work contracts have normally expired," wrote news.gov.hk.
