Prospective Pilgrims Must Be Vaccinated against Meningitis and Covid-19

DDHK. ORG – The government of Saudi Arabia requires prospective pilgrims the hadj to vaccinate against meningitis and Covid-19. The Bandung City Health Service (Dinkes) stated that the vaccinations given to prospective hajj pilgrims were required by the Government Saudi Arabia, namely meningitis and Covid-19.

"From the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia, there are mandatory vaccines and recommended vaccines. For what is mandatory, the meningitis vaccine, then the Covid-19 vaccine, "said the Head of the Surveillance and Immunization Team for the Bandung City Health Office, Girindra Wardhana as reported by Republika, Tuesday (9/5/2023).

Meningitis vaccination for prospective haj pilgrims has been running since April 29 2023 in Lengkong, Batununggal, Panyileukan and Bandung Kidul Districts and will be scheduled for other areas.

Meanwhile regarding the Covid-19 vaccine, he said, the Government of Saudi Arabia is sufficient with two doses, but the Indonesian Covid-19 Task Force rules at least booster one for Foreign Travelers (PPLN).

"Right now what we are pursuing in the pilgrims must complete the Covid-19 vaccine, health checks, coaching at the puskesmas, and we schedule a meningitis vaccination," he said.

If the prospective pilgrims have not received the Covid-19 vaccine, they must be vaccinated against Covid-19 before administering the meningitis vaccine.

Apart from these two vaccines, said Girindra, the polio vaccine is also required on a limited basis by the Government of Saudi Arabia, because in Indonesia there was an Extraordinary Event (KLB) of polio.

"But in the letter that just arrived today from the Ministry of Health, it is only Purwakarta Regency that is required, other areas do not need to," he said. [DDHK News]
