Iranian President Opens Islamic Youth and Awakening Conference

The President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, opened the International Conference on Youth and Islamic Awakening at Milad Tower, Tehran, Sunday (29/1) morning. In his speech, Ahmadinejad asked all Muslim youths to rise up and fight for the revival of Islam. According to him, the revolutions that occurred in various Arab countries were new milestones for the youths. "Young people, fight for the revival of Islam," said Ahmadinejad.

More than 1.500 young people from 73 countries worldwide, including Indonesia and Malaysia, participated in the two-day meeting. A number of figures and thinkers in the Islamic world also attended the conference.

Most of the young people who took part in the conference were actively involved in the latest developments in the Middle East and North Africa.

Secretary General of the Islamic World Awakening Council Ali Akbar Velayati, former Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari, and Secretary General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement Ramadhan Abdullah, are scheduled to deliver speeches at the meeting. (IRIB Indonesia). *
