Gaza Emergency Food Stock

The UN World Food Program (WFP) warns that stocks of several important foodstuffs in the Gaza Strip are running low. WFP said important stocks such as rice, vegetable oil and nuts would run out in the next one to three days.

In its report, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said retailers in Gaza were having difficulty restocking goods from wholesalers, due to the worsening situation and fuel shortages. "Food supplies coming in from Egypt mostly include ready-to-eat food (canned tuna and date bars), and are mainly distributed to refugees and families in southern Gaza, and only flour is supplied to bakeries," said the OCHA statement, quoted from Middle East Monitor, as reported by CNN Indonesia.

The UN agency also said that currently there are no bakeries operating in Gaza City and northern Gaza, because food distribution has almost completely stopped over the last few days due to increasing escalation by Israel. “Access to basic food has become an increasing challenge in Gaza,” OCHA reported.

Human Rights Monitor Euro-Med accused Israel in recent hours of escalating what it described as a “war of hunger”, against civilians in the Gaza Strip.
