Covid-19 Patients Soar, 7 Hong Kong Hospitals Exceed Capacity

DDHK.ORG - The Hospital Authority (HA) announced on Thursday (17/2/2022) that 7 public hospitals in Hong Kong have reached or exceeded their full capacity amid the severity of the Covid-19 outbreak. All inpatient beds in the 7 hospitals have been filled.

Figures released by HA showed that a total of 4.142 people visited the accident and emergency departments of various public hospitals on Wednesday, with about 17 percent of the patients subsequently admitted. The overall occupancy rate of the 17 public hospitals was 95 percent.

Prince of Wales Hospital, Tin Shui Wai Hospital and Tseung Kwan O Hospital were the most overwhelmed, with occupancy rates reaching 108, 107 and 106 percent, respectively, or already exceeding capacity. Meanwhile, United Christian Hospital, Caritas Medical Center, Princess Margaret Hospital and Tuen Mun Hospital are also operating at full capacity.

Outside Caritas Medical Center in Sham Shui Po, for example, some patients can be seen waiting on mobile hospital beds placed on sidewalks or under tents.

As of Thursday, the Hong Kong Government recorded 6,116 new Covid-19 cases. Of that number, only 9 were imported cases from abroad. The rest, due to local infection.

In total, there were 16,513 cases recorded in the last 14 days in Hong Kong. What worries me, only 103 imported cases. The majority are cases of local infection. [Source: RTHK/news.gov.hk] [DDHKNews]
