Beware of Domestic Workers in Turkey, Many Become Victims of Human Trafficking

DDHK.ORG - Warga Indonesia He was advised to be aware of and be careful with offers of job vacancies as domestic workers (PRT) in Turkey. This is because many have been deceived and have become victims of the criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO).

This was revealed by the Indonesian Ambassador in Ankara, Turkey, Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, during an online press conference, Monday (5/4/2021). "In the period from January to today in 2021, 19 cases have been recorded. It's almost the same as the number of cases a year ago, "said Lalu Iqbal.

Iqbal considers trafficking cases involving Indonesian citizens to be quite worrying. Therefore, the former Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and BHI at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia advised Indonesian citizens not to accept the offer to become domestic workers in Turkey.

He emphasized that the domestic workers sector in Turkey is not open to foreign nationals. "The offer to work as a domestic worker (domestic assistant) in Turkey is definitely illegal and it is very vulnerable to becoming a victim of human trafficking," said Lalu Iqbal.

According to him, all recorded TIP cases did not involve Turkish citizens. The employers involved are citizens of conflict countries around Turkey and reside in the country.

"Why aren't there any Turks involved there? Because it is true that in Turkey, the ART sector is not a sector that is allowed for foreigners, and because Turks generally do not use ART, ”said Iqbal.

Those who bring domestic workers into Turkey often take advantage of electronic visas or tourist e-visas, which are fairly easy to obtain. [Source: Indonesian CNN/ Between] [DDHKNews]
