Australian Journalists Visit DDHK and Iqro Shelter

Australian journalist Abigail Haworth visits Dompet Dhuafa Hong Kong (DDHK), Friday (27/1), and was greeted directly by the General Manager of Ust DDHK. Ahmad Fauzi Qosim. Abigail also visited the Iqro Shelter and discussed with shelter residents to find out the joys and sorrows of being a migrant worker abroad who is far from family.

At the Iqro Shelter, Abi was accompanied by DDHK staff Santi Rachmat as the interpreter so that communication ran smoothly. Abi interviewed three BMI with problems, namely Sandra, Fitri, and Suryani.

The case faced by Sandra was that she was accused of stealing money and gold belonging to her employer so that she was detained for two nights at the police station. Suryani had a case underpay and tortured by his employer. Abi said these cases show that the employer has the heart to treat migrant workers inhumanely.

Fitri was kicked out by her employer in the middle of the night because she forgot to bring her house key. This is only a trivial reason so that the employer will release responsibility for the rights that should be obtained by BMIs.

Abi is very concerned about the cases faced by his shelter friends. He motivated them to remain patient, move forward never backward. "Even though there are many obstacles in your way, keep fighting," he said. (Tati Tia Surati / ddhongkong.org). *
