Among the worship that is highly recommended in the month of Ramadan is the night prayer. From Abu Hurairah radliyallãhu 'anhu, Rasulullah shallallãhu 'alaihi wasallam said:
مَنْ قَامَ رَمَضَانَ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ
"Whoever performs the qiyam (night prayer) of Ramadan with full faith and expecting (rewards and forgiveness), then his previous sins will be forgiven." (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim)
The night prayer can be done before going to bed or after. Especially those that are done after sleeping are called tahajjud. Because tahajud literally means rising from sleep. Especially the night prayer which is performed after evening prayer in the month of Ramadan is called the tarawih prayer and is usually performed in congregation.
Then what letter is read in the tarawih or tahajud prayers, after reading Al-Fatihah in each cycle, especially the second cycle? Because it is often found in our society reading Surah Al-Ikhlash in every second cycle after Al-Fatihah.
In fact, there is no reading of special letters in the tahajud or tarawih prayers. The original law was that any letter could be read. If you look at the night prayers of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam, he read in each cycle in a long letter like Al-Baqarah. But Allah gives relief from being allowed to read letters that are easy for us. Allah Subhanãhu wa Ta'ala says:
فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ}
"... therefore read what is easy (for you) from the Qur'an." {QS Al-Muzzammil: 20}
As for if someone is used to reading Surah Al-Ikhlash in the second cycle after Al-Fatihah, then there is nothing wrong with that as a form of convenience that he takes in his prayer. Moreover, Al-Ikhlash's letter is a letter that can bring love from Allah to His servants. However, we still have to pay attention to the quality of our prayers so that we are not fixated only on certain letters so that we can try other letters which of course have other virtues as well.
