NEWS FROM HONG KONG

TSIM SHA TSUI | HONG KONG - The Human Rights Front (CHRF) plans to hold a massive mass action in Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) tomorrow, Sunday (20/10/2019). Anticipating this, tomorrow the Chungking Mansion and Kowloon Mosque will be closed.

Since Thursday (17/10/2019), the manager of one of the halal shopping, lodging and culinary places at TST, Chungking Mansion, has published the plan for the closure. “Given the (planned) large scale protest activities in Tsim Sha Tsui this Sunday (October 20), the Incorporated Owners Chungking Mansion advised all shops to take a day off and closed their gates for the day. For any arrangements on that day, please contact the 24-hour support supervisor at 6888-9205, ”the Chungking Mansion manager wrote in the published announcement.

At the same time, based on DDHKNews' monitoring, the Kowloon Mosque management also published a similar announcement on the mosque's announcement board. The photo of the announcement has circulated among the Muslim community of Hong Kong, including among Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Negeri Beton who usually do their activities at the Kowloon Mosque.

The mosque is only opened during congregational prayer times. "Due to the protests on Sunday (20-10-2019), the mosque will be closed for security reasons, except for prayer times. You are advised to be careful when it comes to Zuhr, Asr, and Maghrib prayers. Your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated, ”read the announcement, which was written in two languages, English and Urdu.

As published in various media and social media, CHRF, the organization that once organized a demonstration which was attended by millions of participants in June, plans to hold a massive anti-government Hong Kong mass action at TST on Sunday tomorrow. The action will start at 13:00 p.m., taking the route from the Salisbury garden to West Kowloon Expressway Station.

However, the police have formally issued an objection to the planned demonstration. Basically, the various violent incidents that often occur have accompanied several recent protests.

The organizer of the action has submitted an appeal against the police's objection. However, today (19/10/2019), as reported by the Hong Kong Radio Television broadcaster (RTHK), the appeals board has rejected it and agrees to the prohibition of action by the police. [Riana Erwie]
