Take Unclaimed Money at ATMs Migrant Workers in Macau Arrested

A migrant worker from mainland China was arrested for allegedly taking “no man's” money at an ATM in Macau. The money belonged to a local resident who forgot to take the money after making a cash withdrawal transaction at the ATM.

According to Macau authorities, as reported by Dimsumdaily Hong Kong on Thursday (22/6/2023), a local woman in her 60s withdrew MOP 5.000 from an ATM near Portas do Cerco on May 6. He forgot to take the cash from the transaction and left the ATM machine.

He only realized his mistake five minutes later. When he returned, the money was gone. The woman reported it to the police.

"After reviewing the recordings from the monitoring system, law enforcement authorities identified the female suspect and used facial recognition technology to track her movements," wrote Dimsumdaily.

On June 16, at around 22.00:45 pm, the suspect, a XNUMX-year-old Chinese citizen surnamed Zhong who works as a hotel cleaner, entered Macau through a border checkpoint and was immediately arrested by the authorities. He admitted taking the money and keeping it at his home in mainland China.
