Will Be Penalized, ASN Holding Iftar Together

DDHK. ORG - ASN (State Civil Apparatus) who held a joint iftar during Ramadan will certainly be subject to sanctions. Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reformi (Menpan-RB) Abdullah Azwar Anas asked ASN not to hold iftar together during Ramadan 2023.

If ASN is still stubborn and keeps holding events breaking the fast together, Anas said there were sanctions that would be given. This is in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) No. 94 of 2021 concerning Discipline for Civil Servants.

"Of course, if there are civil servants who break their fast together within the government, we can see the extent of the violations," he said in an official broadcast Kompas, Thursday (23/3/2023).

“It has been set, whether it is in the light, medium, or heavy category. And the types of punishment also already exist, from oral, written, and so on. Of course later the Inspectorate in each agency will review it," he continued.

Anas said President Joko Widodo had given directions so that officials and ASN would cancel the iftar together. According to Anas, the President's directives must be obeyed by ASN. This prohibition is stated in the Republic of Indonesia Cabinet Secretariat Letter Number R-38/Seskab/DKK/03/2023 concerning Directions Related to Organizing Joint Iftar.

According to Anas, all civil servants must remain focused on improving public services during Ramadan. "So there shouldn't be any impression in the public that there are ASNs who are busy being the committee to break the fast together," he said.

Anas said that breaking fast together so far can indeed strengthen friendship. However, according to him, strengthening friendship in the government office environment does not have to be through iftar together.

"There are many other ways, such as maintaining mutual communication in WA groups, even coordinating work, even between ministries/institutions/local governments, is also part of efforts to strengthen friendship," said Anas.

He suggested, if there is a mutual cooperation fund raised by ASN for breaking fast together within government agencies, then it can be distributed to orphanages. Previously, President Jokowi gave directions through a letter from the Cabinet Secretary regarding the holding of a joint Iftar. The letter was signed by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung on 21 March 2023.

The letter was addressed to the Ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, the Attorney General, the Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces, the National Police Chief, and the Heads of Agencies/Institutions. There are three points in the letter, namely the handling of Covid-19 is currently in transition from a pandemic to endemic so caution is still needed.

Second, in connection with this matter, the holding of breaking the fast together in the holy month of Ramadan 1444 Hijriah should be abolished. The final point is for the Minister of Home Affairs to follow up on the directives mentioned above to governors, regents and mayors. [DDHK News]
