1 Dzulhijjah 20 June, Eid ul Adha 29 June

The Hong Kong Islamic Authority, The Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong, Sunday (18/6), announced that 1 Dzulhijjah 1444 H falls on June 20, 2023. This is based on the results of the sighting of the new moon on Sunday afternoon.

That way, Eid al-Adha, which is celebrated on the 10th of Dzulhijjah, coincides with the 29th of June. “Assalamu'alaikum Wa Rahmatullah. It was informed that the month of Dzulhijjah cannot be seen today. Therefore, 1 Dzulhijjah falls on June 20, 2023 and Eid al-Adha falls on Thursday, June 29," announced the announcement of The Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong.

At the same time, the Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Religion stipulated the same thing. The decision was taken after holding a trial to determine Eid al-Adha 1444 H at the end of the month of Dzulqoidah, last Sunday.

The ISBAT session was held at the HK Rasji Auditorium in the Ministry of Religion Building, Jakarta. Announcement of the Deputy Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi, during a press conference on the determination of 1 Dzulhijjah 1444 H which was held at 19.05 WIB.

"The 29th of Dzulqoidah 1444 H coincides with Sunday, June 18th 2023 M the height of the new moon in all parts of Indonesia above the horizon ranges from 0° 11,78' (zero degree eleven point seventy eight minutes) to 2° 21,57' (two degrees twenty one point fifty seven degrees minutes) with an elongation angle between 4,39° (four point thirty nine degrees) to 4,93° (four point ninety three degrees)," said Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi , as reported by detik.com.

In determining the Hijri month, the Ministry of Religion uses the MABIMS criteria. Determining the beginning of the Hijri month with these criteria refers to the height of the new moon of 3 degrees and the elongation of 6,4 degrees. "The results of the isbat meeting that we agreed with on 1 Dzulhijah will fall on Tuesday, 20 June 2023 AD and Eid al-Adha will fall on Thursday, 29 June 2023," said Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi.

The isbat meeting was attended by a number of Ambassadors from Friendly Countries, Chairperson of Commission VIII DPR RI, the Supreme Court, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The Isbat meeting was also attended by the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Bosscha Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Planetarium, Falak Experts from Islamic Mass Organizations, Related institutions and agencies, Members of the Ministry's Hijri Calendar Unification Team Religion, and Leaders of Islamic Community Organizations and Islamic Boarding Schools.
